Generation Earthshot And Earthshot Prize

Introducing Generation Earthshot

Generation Earthshot was an educational project that focused on environmental sustainability. It is delivered to Kenyan educators and students by STEAMLabs Africa in collaboration with the World's Largest Lesson, the Earthshot Prize and the Royal Foundation to help learners  develop their creative problem-solving skills.

It is inspired by the Earthshot Prize, a global environmental prize launched in 2020 by His Royal Highness Prince William, Duke of Cambridge, to discover and scale the best environmental solutions to repair our planet.

We worked with various private, public and international schools and educators to bring environmental and climate education to Kenyan learners. We reached over 500 teachers  & community leaders from across the country. The educators then scaled down to learners each training at least 30 learners, totaling to over 15,000 learners in Kenya.

The project trained educators and learners on the five Earthshots and used design thinking to come up with solutions for their local environmental challenges. The program delivery resources are for teachers and community leaders to help students aged 10+ use their innate creativity to generate big, bold ideas.

It follows a simple 4-step process, based on the principles of design thinking, to help students learn how to solve problems creatively. It aims to unlock the potential of “Generation Earthshot”: a generation of inventors, innovators and leaders who will help repair and protect our planet. For more information and resources go to: https://generation.earthshotprize.org/
